Probably the most elegant of our fleet with romantic wooden interiors, copper fittings and a stylish downstairs bar, Waikare II is the ultimate venue for up to 35 people. This iconic lady has seen many famous faces cross her boards. With split level entertaining areas, and beautiful outdoor spaces, the classy Waikare II is perfect for any activity or function.

Transport and Timing
Trip time is negotiable with our team and depends on the length of your event. The Waikare II is moored at The Taupo Marina and your guests should arrive at Berth 4, Taupo Boat Harbour, on Redoubt Street to embark. By request, we can arrange to collect you from your accommodation.

An Environmentally Friendly Refit
Chris Jolly Outdoors re-launched the Waikare II Charter Boat in 2018 with two brand new engines, replacing the 1970’s fit out from her history as a milk and mail delivery service to the Bay of Islands.
Originally built for military service for the Vietnam War in Mekong, she was never put to action and instead found a new home in Lake Taupō, New Zealand.

The Waikare II was bought to Taupō in 1989 by its then owner, Chris Jolly himself. The biggest vessel on Lake Taupō at the time, the impressive post war Vietnamese craft took to the trout filled waters for the first time.
Since 1989, The Waikare II has hosted comedian Robin Williams, actor Michael J. Fox of Back to the Future fame and even, Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands.

Can you swim in Lake Taupō?
We would advise a good quality wetsuit if you’re going to attempt it in winter! but December through to March it is absolutely beautiful to get in to that fresh crystal clear water.
Is Lake Taupō a volcano?
Lake Taupō is a caldera volcano. Its last eruption about 1800 years. These days, Lake Taupō is the largest freshwater lake in the southern hemisphere.
What fish can be caught on Lake Taupō?
Lake Taupō offers great fishing for rainbow trout and brown trout.
What should I pack for the boat?
Bring the basics: sunscreen, insect repellent, a muesli bar or two, your own filled water bottle, and a warm jersey. The wind can go right through you on a boat so layering up is always a good idea!If you’d like to go swimming, we suggest togs (Kiwi for swimsuit!), a towel and a spare change of clothes.
