Interactive Survival Walks with Chris Jolly Outdoors

Most of the time we’re fine living in our world of modern conveniences. We get clean drinking water from the taps, food from the supermarkets and we have a warm insulated house to go home to.

But what would you do if a natural disaster occurs? Whether it’s a fallen tree knocking out your power for hours or getting lost wandering in the bush, knowing a few basic survival skills could be the difference between life and death.

Be prepared in unwanted situations

In order to help you be a little more prepared in unwanted situations, Chris Jolly Outdoors is offering an Interactive Survival Walk where you will learn basic survival skills from finding water and food to building shelters. Our guide will show you how you can fully utilise the items you have on you and other discarded items you may find around you.

Get in touch with your inner explorer as you learn to survive off the land, with nothing but a knife and a few items on hand. Learn about the native New Zealand bush, and most importantly how you can survive in the wild in your own natural environment. You will go through a fun and empowering learning process of show me, help me, let me. Be assured that you will leave with a set of skills you can take with you anywhere in the world.

Learn empowering basic survival skills

Surviving is all about being in control; and therefore control of your environment; control of the situation; but most importantly control of your emotions when in a stressful situation. These skills are transferable to your everyday life. Skills that can be learnt (time dependant in each package):

  • Learn to create fire without the use of matches or lighter.
  • Protect yourself from the elements, by building your own shelter.
  • Learn to navigate the celestial way.
  • Make your own filter for water so that it’s safe to drink.
  • Create traps to catch food.
  • Make your own stove out of an old soft drink can.
  • Create fish or eel traps with nothing but a disused cola bottle or clothing.
  • Learn about native medicinal plants.

These are just a few of the skills you will take away with you from this Interactive Survival Experience

During this journey into survival you will be introduced to a selection of primitive and modern ways and learn a few of the skills that they will need to stay alive, in the face of a crisis.

What people are saying

Peter is a modern day version of MacGyver – what he doesn’t know about surviving in the wild isn’t worth knowing.

If you thought Batman had a cool utility belt – make sure you check out Pete’s!

I really enjoyed how I can now turn a bush walk with my kids into an interactive learning opportunity for them.

Peter gave fantastic examples of how to use an array of different fauna and flora to keep yourself safe if ever you find yourself stranded in the bush.

A fantastic team building exercise.  Will take you outside your comfort zone and open your eyes to how amazing nature is.

A great team activity mixing outdoor education and entertainment. Pete certainly knows his stuff and I’d happily get lost in the bush with him as he would certainly keep you warm with laughter until you got out!

Grant Hill, BNZ Taupo

We thoroughly enjoyed our survival walk with Pete, he has an extensive knowledge of surviving in the bush and of native New Zealand plants. It was interesting and fun, enhanced by Pete's knowledge and sense of humour. We would have no qualms at all in recommending this to clients and guests of our hotel.

It was a great walk! Pete was a friendly guide who had some excellent stories to back up his survival tips. The track was beautiful and easy to walk. I now know what berries I can eat to give me a caffeine boost and how to create a shelter to reduce my chances of hypothermia. Thanks for a great day!
