RISK DISCLOSURE STATEMENT – SCENIC CRUISE

We are committed to delivering a safe and enjoyable experience. While we take all care to ensure your safety, there are inherent risks in the nature of our activity. To ensure your safety, you must:

  • Follow the instructions of our team.
  • Act in a safe manner.
  • Be physically capable of undertaking any activity you partake in.
  • Not be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Lake Taupō is deep and is an exposed body of water. Inherent risks of the activity include (but are not limited to):

  1. PERSON OVERBOARD:
Your skipper will provide safety briefings and instructions regarding lifejackets, their storage, location, and how to remain safe on the vessel. Please listen to your skipper’s instructions at all times.
  2. VESSEL LOSS OF STEERING AND/OR PROPULSION:
Our boats are maintained regularly and undergo Maritime New Zealand vessel surveys, though mechanical issues may still arise. Your qualified MNZ skipper is equipped with a radio and further safety equipment to ensure that contact can always be maintained with our base operations.
  3. STRICKEN VESSEL:
Lake Taupō is deep and often calm, though there remains a risk of collision or boat capsize on the lake. We will always cancel trips if predicted weather conditions are unfavourable.
  4. LOSS OF PERSONAL ITEMS:
All personal items must be secured correctly by yourself if you decide to bring them on board. Our boats are covered with comfortable seating, and personal items are welcome. It is at your own risk to bring any personal items on your tour.
  5. RISK OF SLIPS, TRIPS & FALLS:
Walking and movement on the boats is permitted during the tour, though there remains a risk of falling or tripping. A first aid kit is on board, and seats are available for all passengers.
  6. EXPOSURE TO WEATHER:
Our vessels have covered cabin areas where you can shelter from the elements. Please take precautions to manage your sun exposure and exposure to cold conditions; bring warm, dry clothing.
  7. ALLERGENS:
An Epipen is located on every vessel. However, it is the individual’s responsibility to supply their own and administer it themselves in the event of a severe allergic or anaphylactic reaction. The skipper and staff are to be notified immediately of any early signs of a reaction.
  8. RISK OF DEATH OR OTHER SERIOUS INJURY:
We will provide all safety equipment, safety instructions, and a fully trained Maritime NZ skipper who is trained in first aid.

Chris Jolly Outdoors staff reserve the right to terminate any trip/your participation at any time if your safety becomes compromised. By participating, you signify your acknowledgment and acceptance of these inherent risks and agree to conduct yourself in a safe manner. Your safety and enjoyment are our priority, and we appreciate your cooperation in ensuring a safe experience. You agree to inform all others in your party of the above risks.

IMPORTANT INFO

  • If you have a serious medical condition that may require assistance, please note this in the special requirements when booking, and discuss this with the skipper when boarding the vessel.
  • Scenic Cruises are ordinarily run on the Cruise Cat, however, occasionally we may also run on an alternate boat – Supercat. The boat allocated is dependent on prior bookings and maintenance requirements.
  • Wheelchair access is dependent on lake levels and the size of the wheelchair. You must call the office prior to booking to check if wheelchairs can be accommodated.
  • Note that there is no wheelchair access to the toilets onboard.

By booking with Chris Jolly Outdoors, you agree to the terms and conditions outlined here. If you have booked for a group, it is your responsibility to ensure that other people in the group are aware of the terms and conditions before they board.
